Canada’s Top Ten: Genesis (Genèse)

Sat, Jan 12 / 9 pm
Sun, Jan 13 / 7 pm
Directed by Philippe Lesage
2018, Canada, 129 min

Philippe Lesage (Les Démons) returns with a vengeance with this bold, coming-of-age tale about half-siblings Guillaume (Never Steady, Never Still’s Théodore Pellerin)  and Charlotte (Noée Abita) and their respective life-altering experiences. While Guillaume takes his first liberating steps towards sexual actualization, Charlotte’s bids at hedonism result in wounding life lessons. They learn the consequences of being steadfast in their resolve, vaulting us into a beautifully realized coda set in a summer camp that depicts a budding innocent romance between young Félix and Béatrice.

Canada‘s Top Ten Film Festival returns for the 18th year with a diverse and compelling line up of features and shorts. In January and February, we will present the first part of this program. It will be continued later in March to June. This series is generously sponsored by IATSE 856 and William F. White International.

Reviews

When you first fall in love, everything else around you seems to melt away… Lesage weaves this idea of full-on immediacy and a very blinkered view into the fabric of his storytelling, delivering a film that feels intensely alive and in the moment.
