Cinematography for Directors

Cinematography for Directors

Wednesday, July 29th   | 7pm - 10pm  | Zoom Session

Location: Zoom
Registration Fee: 20 – 40
Instructor: Andrew Luczenczyn

Wednesday, July 29th   | 7pm – 10pm  | Zoom Session

*Note:  This workshop will take place on Zoom. You will receive an email with the link to participate.

A cinematographer is among the first crew members a director will work with, and the need to communicate visuals properly becomes a key skill to the success of that partnership. Working with a good cinematographer can leave more time for the director to work with actors and create bolder images, letting the cinematographer take several major duties off the director if they were working alone. This workshop is for new and intermediate directors who are beginning to work with a crew. Topics covered will include:

– How to discuss visual concepts
– What to look for in a cinematographer and how to work with them
– How to develop a “look”
– How to pick lenses
– Technology: what should a director know and what to leave to others

Andrew Luczenczyn is a cinematographer, ICG669 Remote Head Technician, and Camera CSR at William F. White in Winnipeg. He graduated from the University of Winnipeg Department of Theatre and Film and attended the Global Cinematography Institute in Los Angeles and is an Associate Member of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers. He has shot 4 features, and countless short films including H&G, Ruthless Souls and Exposed Nerves.
