Are you interested in screenwriting? This two-day workshop will focus on helping you take the next step and learn all of the basics of screenwriting! Develop your screenwriting craft through the exploration of story structure and character development. Upon completion of this 2-day workshop, students will understand film story structure, character, conflict, and dialogue in feature screenplays and shorts. Only 8 spots available.

Day 1
The first day will focus on introducing you to the craft of screenwriting. You will cover the following areas:
-theme as your compass
-coming up with dynamic characters
-tone & setting
-establishing your world
-writing the treatment
-setting goals for your writing

Day 2
The second day will examine in more details the art of screenwriting. This will include:
-character-driven structure
-writing a grid & outline
-writing the first draft
-touching on different approaches in independent screenwriting

Ryan McKenna is a Canadian filmmaker born in Winnipeg and based out of Montreal. His feature films include The First Winter (2012), The Heart of Madame Sabali (2015), and the experimental doc-hybrid Cranks (2019). His most recent short documentary Voices of Kidnapping (2017) is currently available on the Criterion Channel. His films have played at hundreds of film festivals around the world, and he is currently in development for his next dramatic feature film Late Night Walks with Ethel.

-The Winnipeg Film Group reserves the right to cancel any course where the minimum registration has not been met. Anyone registered for a course that has been cancelled is eligible for a full refund, Cancelled course fees may also be used towards any other Winnipeg Film Group training programs.
