Facebook livestream Q&A with director Andrea Dorfman on Saturday, April 10th at 8:45!

Gaby, unceremoniously dumped on her 40th birthday is petrified she’ll be alone forever so she embarks on a dating rampage only to discover that her problem isn’t that she doesn’t have a love life – it’s that she doesn’t have a life. Stand-up comedian and writer Chelsea Peretti from FOX’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine delivers a subtle performance with an acerbic wit about the search for a partner and the pressures on women to be attached no matter what the cost. Halifax based artist, filmmaker and animator Andrea Dorfman has directed a series of features exploring love and relationships including Parsley Days and a TIFF Top Ten film, Love That Boy.

PLAYS WITH

Flawed / Directed by Andrea Dorfman, 2010, Canada, 12 min

Flawed is a charming animated short film about Andrea’s encounter with a potential romantic partner, questioning her attraction and the uneasy possibility of love. But, ultimately, Flawed is less about whether girl can get along with boy than whether girl can accept herself, imperfections and all.

Reviews

Andrea Dorfman’s thoughtful little film arrives at a compromise that feels honest and hard-won — helped along by the infectious, defiantly offbeat presence of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star Chelsea Peretti.
- Guy Lodge, Variety
Get married, buy a house, have children, and live happily ever after....no one feels the pressure to match this more than women. It’s unusual to see a character like Gaby portrayed on the big screen, but we are starting to see more refreshing stories like this – ones where the happy ending isn’t necessarily true love, marriage, or birth but in a realization that life fulfillment can come from so many other places.
