He works at the fairground as “Stump the Guesser,” who can guess anything for a fee. But suddenly his tricks stop working. And then he unwittingly falls in love with his sister whom he believed to be lost. He sets out to scientifically disprove the theory of heredity and marry his beloved as soon as possible. An absurdist firework of a silent film in black and white.

Stump The Guesser in its initial form was ostensibly a silent film, with sound design by Galen Johnson.  In 2021, the Acht Brücken (Eight Bridges) Music Festival in Cologne, Germany, commissioned two composers, Anthony Cheung and Nina Šenk, to independently score the silent film Stump The Guesser. Ensemble Musikfabrik, conducted by Elena Schwarz, performed the newly-commissioned scores live-to-tape and both versions of the film premiered online in May, 2021.

Version 1: Anthony Cheung: null and void – Music for the Film “Stump the Guesser” – for a large ensemble

Version 2: Nina Šenk: Stump the Guesser – music for an ensemble, for a silent film of the same name

Compositions commissioned by Acht Brücken – Music for Cologne, funded by the Art Foundation North Rhine-Westphalia.
