The sleeper hit of the Telluride Film Festival. Written by Anthony McCarten (The Theory of Everything, Darkest Hour) and directed by Fernando Meirelles (City of God) The Two Popes explores the disagreement between the Argentine Cardinal, Jorge Mario Bergoglio (Jonathan Pryce), and the traditionalist Cardinal, Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger (Anthony Hopkins), over the spiritual direction of the Catholic church.

Reviews

The delicate dance between the two veteran actors, both eagerly devouring a late-life jewel of a script, is a joy to behold...movie magic…a magnificent chamber piece about two men at odds over theology and its interpretation. -Fionnuala Halligan, Screen Daily Anchored by two outstanding performances from Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce, the film is a triumph.
- Stephen Farber, Hollywood Reporter
