Congratulations to Winnipeg filmmaker Shira Newman, whose short film The Blessing, was the Winner of the Emerging and Established Directors Short Film Competition at the 2018 Winnipeg Jewish Film Festival.
The Blessing is part of the WFG’s Distribution Catalogue and was awarded a Spring 2017 MFM Marketing Fund from the Winnipeg Film Group. Shira was selected in Spring 2018 to partake in the inaugural WIDC / WFG Shorts Works Award Lab.
In The Blessing, a 15 minute narrative short, a depressed new mother wrestles the demon she believes has possessed her in order to protect her baby.
