Through the Lens of Dance with Zorya Arrow

Monday, Sept 13th | 6pm-8pm CT | Zoom Session

*Note:  This workshop will take place on Zoom. You will receive an email with the link to participate.

In this two hour online event, Zorya Arrow will present her approach to dancing for her own camera lens. She will dive into group discussions around what dance means, why we do it, and how we approach sharing it with others in our current day. This session will also  providing participants with task oriented active exploration time to create their own dance works using whatever technology is at their fingertips.

Zorya Arrow is a Winnipeg-based artist of mixed settler ancestry, who has been working professionally in dance, theatre, and film for nine years. She posts silly dances on Instagram from time-to-time, and has not journeyed over to Tik-Tok thus far.

Zorya is passionate about collaboration, and the application of contact improvisation, clown, communication, abstraction and realism, and storytelling in her work. She has created over fourteen original live performance works, and has been commissioned and presented by Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers, Company Link, and Nova Dance Collective. Additional presentations of her live/film works have been presented by Young Lungs Dance Exchange, Fem Fest Cabaret-Sarasvati Productions, Nuit Blanche Winnipeg, Winnipeg Underground Film Festival, Theatre Projects Manitoba Salon, James Black Gallery (Van.), Soupstock Festival, WNDX, and a video installation of her’s was presented by Video Pool Media Arts Centre at Poolside Gallery alongside Toby Gillies.

Zorya holds an honours degree in Dance, with a minor in Theatre and Film, from the University of Winnipeg, in affiliation with The School of Contemporary Dancers Senior Professional Program. Her additional studies in Grotowski physical theatre, and clown have been hugely influential in her work.

Currently, Zorya is in the development stages of creation for a new dance work, as well as working for Young Lungs Dance Exchange, an artist-run support organization, as Managing Artistic Director.
