Cinematheque is happy to announce a new stream of FREE programming that will be offered virtually throughout February and March. Thanks to a generous grant from the Province of Manitoba’s Safe at Home initiative, we are offering Manitobans a full slate of Canadian films over the next couple months to stream entirely for free. This slate of programming will be in addition to our regular Cinematheque at Home virtual cinema offerings and will encompass short and feature films from right here in Manitoba and across the country, showcasing the best in contemporary Canadian film. The mission of this project is to provide Manitobans an accessible, free, and stimulating entertainment option during these trying times, and to expose more Manitobans to the wealth of film talent right here in Canada.
Every 2 weeks a new program of short films put together by local curators and 1 local feature film will be available to stream entirely for free, until they are replaced by a new short program and feature during the next 2 weeks. These will be available to anyone in Manitoba to watch at anytime during the 2 week period.
Punctuating those 2 week programming blocks, we will also be presenting one-time livestreams of recent Canadian feature films every Friday in February and March at 7pm. When possible, these films will be accompanied by a Q & A with the filmmaker.
As if that weren’t enough, we will also be continuing our winter tradition of free kids and family programming on Sunday afternoons in February and March. The ever-popular Cabin Fever returns on Sunday, February 7 at 12pm. We’re pleased to be partnering again with Art City to offer free GIF animation virtual workshops after the films.
