Winnipeg Film Group Distribution is teaming up with the Womyn’s Centre at the University of Manitoba for a screening on campus for International Women’s Day!
Distribution Coordinator Stephanie Berrington curated a program of WFG-distributed films for the occasion that each explore themes around gender, feminism, and queerness.
The event will take place on Friday, March 9 in Room 160 at the U of M’s Elizabeth Dafoe Library, with refreshments served from 6:15 and the screening beginning at 7pm. After the hour-long program, there will be questions and a discussion with Steph and several of the filmmakers in attendance.
The nine films selected include: Madison Thomas’s experimental short, Female; Danielle Sturk’s short documentary, Clean; Gwen Trutnau’s fantasy, Hot Anger; The Ephemerals’ Maiden Indian; Caroline Monnet’s IKWÉ; Vjosana Shkurti’s Peppermint Ashes (Leagan); Shimby Zegeye-Gebrehiwot’s experimental documentary, yaya/ayat; Jessie Short’s Sweet Night; and Erin Buelow and Faye Green’s Undone.
Congrats to the filmmakers and we hope to see you there!
Please note that a few of the films deal with sensitive matters such as sexual assault; while there are no explicit depictions or images of these traumas, there are descriptions or allusions to them in the narration.
