WFG Filmmakers Selected for Ottawa Animation Fest

Jul 27, 2017

Congratulations to Amanda Strong, Matthew Rankin, and Eva Cvijanovic whose films are among the 105 short films selected (out of 1992 entries) for competition at the Ottawa International Animation Festival 2017, which runs from Sept 20-24 in the nation’s capital.

Amanda Strong’s Four Faces of the Moon, currently in distribution with the Winnipeg Film Group, is a narrative short animation that peels back the layers of Canada’s colonial history. As Danis Goulet, TIFF Short Cuts programmer, describes, “this intricate stop-motion animation interlaces Canada’s colonial past with writer-director Amanda Strong’s personal family history — and illuminates Cree, Métis, and Anishinaabe reclamation of culture, language, and Nationhood.” Amanda’s film will be screening as part of Short Film Competition 5.

Matthew Rankin, whose films have screened at Sundance and Cannes, is a WFG alumnus and we are proud to see his recent film, TESLA ‘LUMIÉRE MONDIALE’, included in the OIAF Short Film Competition 1 program.

Hedgehog’s Home, a film by Eva Cvijanovic, will be competing in the Short Animation Made for Children aged 6-12 category. Eva’s 2013 film, Seasick, is distributed by the Winnipeg Film Group.

Best of luck to Amanda, Matthew, and Eva!!!
